Simulation.Lab™

The Efficacy of the Polyrix Simulator

The Polyrix Simulator is a physics-based light simulation software designed to replicate the functionality of a real PolyScan system. It simulates the scanners’ images projected by its projectors, and those captured by its cameras. This allows users to virtually reconstruct 3D data out of a CAD model for any PolyScan configuration, without the need of a physical part.

This tool provides key insights such as the data coverage on specific parts and expected accuracy. It can also be used to evaluate the impact of fixture design, optimizing camera and projector placement, and ensuring full part coverage. Once the PolyScan system has been deployed, it can also help to introduce new parts in the PolyScan without interrupting current production or process.

Simulation.Lab™ Benefits

  • No Physical Part or Scanner Required
    Physically accurate light propagation
simulation with only a CAD model.
  • Reduces Evaluation Costs and Delays
    Eliminate shipping delays, avoid travel,
and reduce the time-to-demo. Save on
shipping and logistics and prevent wear
or damage on the part by relying on
    virtual models.
  • Optimal System Configuration Guarantee
    Simulate and virtually configure the
    PolyScan to precisely meet project
    requirements and use this information
to determine the ideal number of
scanning units tailored to each project
    therefore optimizing its costs.
  • Offline Project Configuration
Prepare and validate project setups for
new pieces to scan or system upgrades
    like Smart.Fit and Fast.Scan.
  • Offline Fixture Design
    Design fixtures virtually, ensuring better
alignment without the need for physical
    prototypes.

Simulation.Lab™ FAQ

Simulation.Lab™ is Polyrix’s virtual scanning simulator that replicates the performance of a PolyScan system using only a CAD model—no physical scanner or part required.
It digitally provides a physics-based light simulation of PolyScan’s structured-light projection and capture process, providing realistic predictions of scan coverage and accuracy. It also outputs the required physical space that the PolyScan configuration will require also it will take into consideration any relevant environmental constraints.

Simulation.Lab™ delivers several advantages that streamline planning and reduce costs:

  • No physical part or scanner required
  • Reduces evaluation costs and delays
  • Optimizes system configuration
  • Enables offline project setup
  • Supports fixture design and validation
Yes—it allows engineers to virtually adjust sensor placement, lighting, and fixtures to maximize coverage and minimize blind spots.
By removing the need for physical prototypes, Simulation.Lab™ reduces shipping and on-site demo expenses, eliminates costly trial iterations, and accelerates project timelines.

Yes—Simulation.Lab™ can test fixture concepts on CAD parts before they’re built, ensuring they support accurate, repeatable measurement.

Absolutely. New parts can be validated virtually and then seamlessly integrated into production without stopping the line.
It provides detailed reporting on point cloud density, line-of-sight coverage, and accuracy estimates, guiding design and process decisions.
While there is a need for a computer running the Polyrix Simulation.Lab™ software, only CAD models are required. Users can explore scanning scenarios anywhere, without access to a PolyScan system.
By simulating coverage and cycle times, it identifies the optimal number of scanning units for a project, balancing cost, takt time, and accuracy.
Simulation.Lab™ enables engineers, quality specialists, and designers to evaluate scanning strategies together in a shared virtual environment. This collaborative approach helps align teams, solve quality problems earlier, and make confident decisions before investing in physical equipment.
